Hello, we’d like to take a moment to introduce ourselves.  Our names are Karen and Janice and we’re the creative force behind Semper Stylish.  We live in the beautiful and historic Mt Vernon area of Alexandria, Virginia, with our very supportive spouses and our four legged companions (Hanai, Trixie, Spritle, and Evinrude).

Janice & Karen

We met 11 years ago through a mutual love of running and the need for a training partner to kick each other’s butt, especially on those cold, dark mornings.  Running led to triathlons, and even a few marathons, so, you can see we’ve spent a lot of time training together.

With all this time together, add two very talkative personalities with creative imaginations, and you get a constant flow of inspiration and ideas.  In addition to this creative side, we both have a love for vintage and antique decor that led to weekend hunts of estate sales, tag sales, thrift stores, and, we sheepishly admit, some “dumpster diving.”  Semper Stylish is a result of this passion and creativity.

Our name, Semper Stylish, is a play on the US Coast Guard motto Semper Paratus, which means “Always Ready.”  Both our spouses have Coast Guard backgrounds, and this (along with a little serendipity) is really how we ended up in the same place, at the same time.

And we don’t want to forget the other members of our families.  Karen belongs to Hanai, which means “adopted” in Hawaiian.  Karen rescued Hanai several years ago after she was abandoned in a neighborhood park during an awful storm.

Janice belongs to two Papillons mixes, Trixie and Spritle, adopted from the Papillon rescue group,  Pap911, and an Abyssinian cat named Evinrude or “Rudy.”  Rudy is named after the Evinrude outboard motor because, as a kitten, he was a little purr machine.  Trixie and Spritle were named after characters in Speed Racer.

We’ve had a busy weekend painting a couple of pieces of furniture.  We’ll show you the before and after once they are done. We also hit a couple of estate sales, but came away empty handed.  So not a lot to add to our treasures for Lucketts.

Thanks for joining us on our journey to Lucketts Spring Market-
